Accessibility at Dinsmore

Parking

For visitors who rely on wheelchairs and walkers, designated, accessible parking is available next to the office and gift shop.

Grounds Access

The Dinsmore family graveyard is located on the top of a hill roughly .2 miles behind the house and requires an able body with a walking stick to manage. The path up to the graveyard is a hiking trail and can become slick in wet conditions. Please plan to wear appropriate hiking shoes and possibly grab your favorite hiking stick. We hope you enjoy the many nature preserve hiking trails the surrounding park has to offer.

Wheelchair Use

Just as the family has done since 1840’s, we continue to do all we can to accommodate our guests within the confines and limitations of our facilities. Much of the grounds are wheelchair accessible. The path to the house is compacted gravel. There are easily accessible picnic tables located all over the lawn and under the shade trees. The wheelchair ramp, at the back of the house, gives access to the interior of the house (only the first floor). The upstairs of the Dinsmore home is not wheelchair accessible. So that we can make your visit as enjoyable as possible, please contact us in advance of your visit and we will make all efforts to accommodate your limitations and share as much of the Dinsmore family experience as possible through mobile exhibits and additional artifacts.
